Worked Examples

The repo ships a knowledge library of 55+ worked example scenes in skills/examples/, covering categories from bedrooms and coffee shops to dental operatories, wine cellars, and home cinemas. Each example is a pair:

  • <name>.md — the lessons: the layout pattern, the traps that cost builds, and the VLM feedback that was accepted or deliberately declined (with reasons);
  • <name>_v1.py — the runnable, phase-gated IDSDL program that produced the final verified build.

These examples are not decoration — they are the knowledge base the guided flow retrieves from when an agent builds a new room. They are organized by layout pattern rather than by room name: a ramen bar and a cocktail bar share a skeleton; a study and a home office share another. For a new scene, you find the example whose pattern matches and adapt its program, rather than starting from scratch.

A dozen of them, built and rendered

Every image below is the phase-1 build of the linked program, rendered as-is — no manual touch-ups:

Reading an example

Every .md follows the same template. The most useful sections when you’re learning the language:

Section What you learn from it
The layout idea How the room decomposes into groups and wall jobs.
Pinned assets Which retrieved meshes were kept, and the audit that caught bad ones.
What worked / gotchas API subtleties discovered the hard way (and how to avoid them).
VLM feedback we hit What the critic flagged, and when a vote was correctly ignored.

A taste of the patterns

  • Hero-anchor rooms — one dominant piece (a bed, an L-desk, a projection wall) anchors the room; everything else is staged around it.
  • Table hubs — a stretched table with a chair ring (AroundGroup.place_rectilinear), from boardrooms to family dining.
  • Repeated-unit grids — workstations, lockers, or racking tiled with GridGroup, with aisles carved by room-thirds.
  • Large multi-zone floors — gyms, casinos, lobbies: zone the floor first, then build each zone as its own frozen group.

Running one

Each program builds standalone with the repo’s phase runner:

python workbench.py run skills/examples/media_room_v1.py --phase 1 # floor layout only (~1 min)
python workbench.py run skills/examples/media_room_v1.py # full build

Start with skills/examples/README.md — the index table lists every example with the layout pattern it teaches.

Next: capabilities the tutorial pages don’t cover — WorkstationGroup, place_inside, mirrors, lighting budgets — live in Beyond the Basics.
